Ambassador Antonio Mello, Coordinator of International Relations at the Rio de Janeiro City Hall, participated in the Meeting of Directors of International Relations and Coordinators of the international network of cities Union of Ibero-American Capital Cities (UCCI), from 20 to 22 February 2020 in Madrid, Spain. The meeting aimed at building the new UCCI 2020-2024 Strategy, with the objective of promoting technical coordination as a tool for institutional strengthening of member cities.

The meeting proposed to discuss the organization's strategy for the next 4 years, focusing on sharing knowledge, good practices and experiences, promoting effective and efficient technical cooperation, and encouraging the training of municipal officials, seeking the unification of interests and common solutions to the problems shared by the member capitals.

The meeting was attended by representatives of Andorra la Vella (Principality of Andorra), Asunción (Paraguay), Barcelona (Spain), Bogotá (Colombia), Brasilia, Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo (Brazil), Buenos Aires (Argentina), Guatemala (Guatemala), Havana (Cuba), La Paz and Sucre (Bolivia), Mexico City (Mexico), Montevideo (Uruguay), San José (Costa Rica), San Salvador (El Salvador), Santiago (Chile), Tegucigalpa (Honduras) and Madrid (Spain).
