MY  RIO

Moacyr Luz, singer and songwriter

Moacyr Luz's Rio de Janeiro is translated into poetry. Pedra do Sal, Conceição Hill, Aterro do Flamengo, the small shops of the city center. All of these spaces overflow with enchantment when they are described by the singer and songwriter. "When I made "Saudades da Guanabara" (1999 song), I understood the responsibility of being born in Rio. We have a beautiful heritage in our hands that always needs to be preserved and maintained," he says.

A "task" that he does not give up. Moacyr has lived in 20 different neighborhoods of Rio: from Bangu to Copacabana, in Méier, Tijuca, Catete, Gloria, Santa Teresa... Today he lives in Flamengo and sees Aterro as his backyard. "I don't leave Rio for nothing. The maximum time I was absent was 20 days," he says. For him, the bars of Rio are as important as the great sights of the city because they guard the soul of Rio. "I dream that the population will again occupy the streets of Rio with chairs and tables and enjoy the beauties of the city without fear," says Moacyr.

1 – Aterro do Flamengo – "It is an area of unique integration of society, but I have a feeling that much of Rio de Janeiro does not know yet. It turned into the yard of my house, where I picnic, give interviews sitting under trees and meet friends."

2 – Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon and surroundings – "The view from the exit of Rebouças tunnel gives me the feeling that I got home. When we look and see that shining water mirror reflecting off the buildings, it's magical."

3 – São Conrado overpass – "This is a wonderful spot of Rio de Janeiro. Cars passing in two directions, so close to the sea. That design of the stone. All of this create a stunning scenario."

4 – Quinta da Boa Vista park – "That fresh lawn is wonderful. A meeting place that brings families together and offers a unique space."

5 – Arco do Telles – "We have the feeling that Machado de Assis passes by every day. The corner of those streets offers a trip to old Rio, visiting shops such as headgear, cigar shop and a small and unique bookstore."
